What to Paint at Latta Nature Preserve
There are many lovely forested areas in the 1,300 acres that make up Latta, but the big draw is Mountain Island Lake. Offering both broad sweeping views and intriguing wooded coves, the easily accessible lake provides options for many different types of compositions.
Plein Air Painting Experiences at Latta Nature Preserve
Maybe you've been to Latta before to visit the Carolina Raptor Center or to learn more about the history of the area, but it also offers great views of Mountain Island Lake for plein air painting. There are a few different parking areas within the park. I've typically driven to the end of Sample Rd. and parked at the Waterfront Parking Lot. This gives you easy access to the trails that wind around Mountain Island Lake. Trails are a mix of pavement and maintained dirt pathways. You can easily walk to the lakeshore in 5 minutes and set up or follow one of the 1-2 mile trails to consider additional vantage points.
